Creative Commons

All the content on StoryWeaver is openly licensed under Creative Commons. The license that has been used for all stories and images is the CC BY 4.0 license. This license lets you distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon our work, even commercially, as long as you credit the original creators, StoryWeaver, the publisher of the story, and the donor/funder of the story.

"Creative Commons is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to making it easier for people to share and build upon the work of others, consistent with the rules of copyright. We provide free licenses and other legal tools to mark creative work with the freedom the creator wants it to carry, so others can share, remix, use commercially, or any combination thereof."

Attribution Terms

You must leave all copyright and Creative Commons notices placed there by us intact and reproduce them in a way that is reasonable to the medium in which you are republishing the work.

You must cite the original author, illustrator, translator (where applicable), the publisher, and the donor/funder.

You must also cite StoryWeaver as the platform from where the content was taken. It would be nice if you could link back to the original story/image on the platform.

It would be nice to link that name to the person's profile page on SW, if such a page exists. You must cite the work's title or name. Wherever possible do link the name or title directly to the original work.

You must cite the specific Creative Commons license the work is under. It should be CC BY 4.0. And wherever possible do link the license citation links to the license on the Creative Commons website - https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

If you are using the PDF of the story in its entirety without ANY modification in terms of design, text or image, the attributions are provided at the end of the PDF and you don’t need to add anything.

If you are adapting the layout of the story for other platforms, textbooks, apps, assessments any other medium and choose to use the story without the attribution pages at the end, please use the attribution line from the Attribution Guidelines Document.

Here is an example of a correct attribution:

<Story title> (language), written by <name of author>, illustrated by <name of illustrator>, supported by <name of donor>, published by <name of Publisher> (© <name of publisher>, <year of publication>) under a CC BY 4.0 license on StoryWeaver. Read, create and translate stories for free on www.storyweaver.org.in

Do please take a look at the Attribution Guidelines Document for more examples.

Any content that has been readapted or remixed or tweaked in anyway must also mention the license under which it is being released.

For example if you are taking a CC BY work and adapting it under an NC license, you must mention that the readapted work is being released under the CC NC 4.0 license.

We recommend that ideally all the readapted work be released under the same license as the original work.
